Multiple storages

Allow Tenants to have multiple storages

Introduction

This article explains how the new Tenant storage system works and its features.

Multiple storages

This feature replaces the Storage and Premium Storage fields available until now in Flexxible|SUITE.

The Tenants view shows a new Storages tab. The list of storages under the section divider gives information on the main storage for the Tenant; this means that the scripts, branding, and images are stored in this.

During migration to version 3.1.5, the current storage configuration is transferred to the new system.

Configuration

This section gives a more detailed description of how to set up new storages and what actions are automatically run on initializing the Tenant.

Creating a new storage

In the Storage tab on the Tenant detail, click in the New button and a window will pop up with fields that you must enter to create new storage. These fields are as follows:

  • OwnFS: specifies whether the Tenant has its own file server or not.

  • FSName: if the Tenant does have its own file server, specifies the FQDN name of the file server.

  • QUOTAGB: maximum space that can be hosted in the storage, specified in gigabytes.

  • Used size (Gb): space used on the storage; this value is updated daily with the number of gigabytes used.

  • StorageType: the type of storage. At present, Standard or Premium, the difference being that Premium storage uses SSDs.

  • FS Local Path: UNC path in the file system server where the storage will be located.

  • Drive letter: letter assigned to the storage.

  • Alias: an automatically calculated field with the Tenant’s calculated_code plus the drive letter. However, for the main storage, only the Tenant’s calculated_code is used, for compatibility with the previous storage system.

  • Notification email: Email address to which alerts are sent in the event of insufficient space. These alerts are sent when 85% and 95% of the space has been used.

  • Set permission: specifies whether initialization of the Tenant requires the storage permissions to be updated.

Tenant initialization (automatic storage creation)

This section describes the actions performed during the initialization of the Tenant with regard to creating new storage:

  • The folder with the name of the alias is created at the location defined in the FSLocalPath field and a .txt file is generated to verify that the service has to write permissions in the directory.

  • The folder created in the previous section is shared and grants Tenant users and their Managers permissions.

  • If the SyncGPOScripts parameter is enabled, this edits the base “SD – Configuration – Map network drive Users” GPO and adapts it for the storage of this Tenant. This GPO allows Tenant users to view the storage with the assigned drive letter on their PC.

  • The FSRM is configured and quotas are enabled to control space.

When a storage value is changed, the Set permission option in the storage must be selected, and the Tenant must be initialized to apply the changes.
